Team Rules and Expectations
The following rules and expectations are in addition to any
and all rules that are included in the LHS athletic standards, as well as the
WIAA standards.
Practice attendance is mandatory. If there are extenuating circumstances that arise, which prohibit a student-athlete from fulfilling this expectation, the student-athlete or parent must notify Coach Teeter or their position coach prior to practice, or ASAP after practice on that same day to explain their absence. If the absence is not for an excused reason, or this communication does not happen, the student-athlete will not be eligible to play in the next varsity and/or junior varsity game. If a student-athlete misses two practices during on week, even with valid reasoning and proper communication, they will not be eligible to play. If a student-athlete is injured or ill, and can not participate in practice, but is able to attend and watch practice, that will count toward permitting them to play in the upcoming game.
In order to earn a varsity letter, a student-athlete, must participate in at least 14 quarters of varsity games. 1 play in a quarter counts as a full quarter. The student-athlete must complete the season in good standing with the team. If an injury prevents the student-athlete from completing the season, the student-athlete can still earn the letter based on Coaches’ discretion. All seniors who complete the season will earn a letter. Any player who earns over 200 Commitment Points and completes the season will also earn a letter.
In order to be academically eligible for the beginning of football season, all student-athletes must have a GPA above a 1.7 and must have passed EVERY class from the spring semester of their 8th grade year. This GPA is a MINIMUM and does not reflect the academic goals of the LHS football program. As a team, we have a goal of a collective 3.0 or higher GPA. Any student-athletes that have goals of attending college should be shooting for a 3.2 or better. Athletic scholarships are relatively rare; in fact there are about 90 times as many academic scholarships as athletic scholarships. In order for colleges to even consider you as a student-athlete, you MUST take care of business in the classroom – starting NOW!
Substance abuse of any kind, will not be tolerated. If a student-athlete is even present at a gathering where minors are involved in this behavior, they will be in violation of the LHS athletic code.
If an athlete has been diagnosed with concussion like symptoms by a Coach or health care provider, the athlete must provide a Doctor’s note prior to resuming participation.
